Father’s House & School for Blind Children,
Kiev
CRY
has been working in partnership with Father’s House Programs since
2000. Working with children and young people living on the streets
is often the first point of contact for Father’s House staff and the
opportunity to share love and a hope for the future.
Over the years, a range of resources have been developed to support
children in the transition from “street life” to the secure and
stable future which is every child’s right.
A reception home into which all new children receive love and care
is central to the ongoing work of Father’s House. Children will then
move to family groups, where in the care of “parents”, they learn to
live in families and develop the basics of living, education etc.
Many children are subsequently returned, with support, to their
families, fostered or adopted.
Over the years CRY, in addition to regular financial support of the
children, has raised capital sums for building developments and is
currently part-funding a new independence hostel for older
teenagers.
Father’s House
Summer Camps, Crimea
Part of Father’s House ongoing program is a summer camp which
enables children living on the streets to take time away and help
them make the break from their old life. In the early days, this
camp was held in Kiev, but recently has been held in the Crimea.
Also, in 2005, a grant was obtained to enable the refurbishment of a
building in Shtormove on the Black Sea coast. This was to enable the
development of Father’s House ministry to homeless children in an
area removed from the temptations of begging, abuse from pedophiles
and drugs.
Kiev Special
Boarding School for Blind Children
In addition, CRY has supported the Kiev Special Boarding School #5
for Blind children through add-hoc gifts and capital grants. The
school has typically 160+ children, of which currently 60% are
partially sighted, the remainder completely blind.
House of the Child
Children's Home,
Sevastopol, Crimea
In 2009, CRY has received a grant which will
enable renovations to be undertaken at this Home which is run by
CRY’s partner charity, Solidarity.
The House of the Child is the only children’s home in Sevastopol and
currently cares for up to 90 children aged 0-4 years. Over half of
the children have disabilities including, Downs Syndrome, Cerebral
Palsy, Cystic Fibrosis and various heart problems. A number of the
children have mothers suffering with HIV/AIDS, and other serious
infections.
This grant will provide a new kitchen which will enable improved
nutritious diets to be prepared for the children. New equipment will
improve the physical and social well-being of these children. These
improved facilities will enhance their chances of being adopted or
fostered. |
