New Way School,
Armavir
CRY’s involvement began
in 2001 with an initial support of the New Way School in Armavir
when a number of Chechen Refugee children needed education. These
children were not entitled to state education and were welcomed into
New Way School.
CRY agreed to support
these children and later when some returned to Chechyna, support was
also given to buying a building and setting up a school in the Capital
Grozny. This was
closed in 2008 following changes to the law when the state took over
all education.
The need to provide for those who are excluded
and discriminated against, continues in Armavir, and many children are
now receiving a high quality education not previously available to
them.
Drug Rehab
Center,
Podgornaya
CRY became involved with the work in Podgornaya
in 2003, when a Grant was obtained to help renovate and develop a
Drug Rehabilitation Centre. This area has a significant problem of
drug abuse and CRY has been able to continue to provide support to
this Rehabilitation Centre, where a high success rate is the norm.
A further grant in 2007 has enabled new living quarters to be
renovated and built as well as establishing agricultural programs
and other vocational activities.
Day Center,
Makhachkala
Makhachkala is situated in the province of
Dagestan, which is an area of high deprivation being on one of the
drug routes from the East into Russia, and also has high level of
Terrorist activity. In 2006, CRY was able to obtain grants to
renovate a Day Centre for young people.
This centre provides education, skills training and a hope for the
future. As this project develops, it is hoped to see many of these
young people have opportunities to lead purposeful lives |
