Pregnancy Waiting Houses & Maternity Care...
Stung Treng,
Preah Vihear & Ratanakiri
In 2007, CRY was able to support a member of
King’s Community Church in her work with VSO in Cambodia. A grant
was obtained to build a “Waiting House” in Stung Treng, one of six
provinces in Cambodia. The “Waiting House” has given support to
pregnant women, providing them with a safe and well-resourced
environment in which to give birth. In this country there is a high
maternal and child mortality rate and this project has significantly
reduced the numbers of mothers and babies dying.
A further grant was obtained to build a
second “Waiting House” in Preah Vihear. This house was opened in
September 2008 and is now contributing to the welfare of many women,
once again reducing the levels of maternal and infant mortality. In
2009, CRY obtained another grant which will enable a third "Waiting House" to be
built in Ratanakiri. The
Cambodian Health Department is very supportive of these projects and
it is hoped to develop the network in the future. |
